Your laundry room is a space that often gets overlooked when it comes to cleaning. It’s easy to focus on the clothes themselves and forget about the room where the magic happens. But aren’t you sick of stepping into a cluttered and dirty space every time you need to do a load? It’s already not the most fun task but being in a gross room just makes it unpleasant. With our checklist and some simple tips, you’ll be able to keep on top of cleaning the laundry room. (Keeping on top of the actual laundry is a separate issue. One thing at a time!)
Step 1: Declutter and Organise
Start by decluttering the space. Remove any items that don’t belong in the laundry room and find proper homes for them. Sort through cleaning supplies, laundry products, and miscellaneous items, discarding anything expired or no longer needed. Use baskets, shelves, or storage bins to organise remaining items neatly.
Step 2: Dust and Wipe Down Surfaces
Dust all surfaces in the laundry room, including shelves, benches, cabinets, and light fixtures. Use a microfibre cloth or dusting wand to trap dust effectively. Then, wipe down surfaces with an multi-purpose cleaner or. Pay special attention to frequently touched areas like doorknobs, handles, and switches.
Step 3: Clean Appliances
Give your appliances some TLC. Clean the exterior of your washing machine and dryer with a damp cloth and spray. For the washing machine, run a cycle with hot water and white vinegar to remove detergent buildup and odours. Don’t forget to clean the lint trap in your dryer to prevent fire hazards and improve airflow.
Step 4: Scrub Sink and Faucets
Use a scrub brush or sponge and a mild abrasive cleaner to scrub away any stains or grime. Pay attention to the faucet, handles, and drain. Rinse well with water and dry with a clean cloth.
Step 5: Empty the bin
Empty any bins and replace the liner with a fresh one. It will stop you getting really annoyed later when you go to throw something in there and there’s no bag. Just do it now.
Step 6: Sweep and Mop the Floor
Finally, sweep or vacuum the floor to remove any dust, dirt, or debris. Then, mop the floor with a solution of warm water and floor cleaner. Pay attention to corners and baseboards, and spot clean any spills or stains. Allow the floor to air dry completely before putting back any items.
With this checklist in hand, you’re well-equipped to tackle the task of cleaning your laundry room like a pro. By following these steps regularly, you’ll maintain a clean and organised space that makes laundry day a fun, exciting and joyous occasion! Ok, maybe not quite. But roll up your sleeves and get it done anyway.
